CMS Consultants DITA XML initiative

CMS Consultants will use DITA XML to structure its Best Practices documentation, in an experimental use of XML to practice what CMS Consultants preach.

Since CMS Consultants Best Practice recommendations are already structured in a Design Patterns model, our DITA approach will consist of multiple steps:

  1. Define a new DITA domain - Design Patterns (with designPatterns.xsd). We hope this will be a valuable addition to the current domains - Typography, Programming, Software, User Interface, and Utilities.

Since Design Patterns are a powerful tool for documenting object-oriented programs, this new domain will extend the usefulness of DITA in the main documentation projects where it is currently used.

  2. Define a new DITA topic - Design Patterns.

  3. Define a second new DITA domain, extending the Design Patterns domain - Best Practices (with bestPractices.xsd).

Best Practices documentation is another leading edge of the documentation field.

  4. Define a second DITA topic - Best Practices, a subtopic of Design Patterns.

  5. Define a specialized DITA topic - CMS Consultants Best Practices, a subtopic of Best Practices.

  6. Define a new DITA map - CMS Consultants Best Practices as arranged by their location in the Content Management Lifecycle.

  7. Define and author appropriate tasks, concepts, and references for each Best Practice.
    For example, Controlled Vocabularies
