Draft Announcement for Mailing Lists
From CM Professionals Community of Practice
To the ContentManagers Mailing List

We invite you all to join an international community of CM Professionals focused on peer interaction. The purpose is to further proven good practices based on shared experiences of experts and peers.

As a group of CM practitioners, we seek to create a membership organization that will enable sharing of information, practices, and strategies. We envision a variety of member services, including a newsletter, professional discounts, and "summit"-type gatherings devoid of marketing hype.

We will raise awareness of content management as an essential discipline that builds value, both financial and human, for companies and organizations.

We will offer a members-only mailing list, in addition to continuing support of the larger public mailing lists like CMS and ContentManagers. We will run a job board, publish a professional directory, and maintain a calendar of face-to-face meeting opportunities.

We are building a community-led platform which facilitates the ongoing refinement of the state-of-the-art regarding content management theory and practice, with a collaborative website, discussion forums, issue-oriented group blogs, knowledge wikis, and syndicated web services.

CM Professionals will hold a Summit meeting November 30 in Boston, in conjunction with the Gilbane Conference on Content Management Technologies.

As we grow, we will work closely with other organizations that share many of our goals, such as AIfIA, AIGA, AIIM, ASIST, KM Pro, SIGCHI, STC, UPA, and others. We will coordinate our thinking about recommended standards for best practices with standards organizations like ANSI, DIN, and ISO. We hope to work closely with graduate schools who are training the next generation of information professionals.

The Board of Directors has charged the committee to prepare a "set of messages" suitable for use as releases early next month describing the soft launch of CM Professionals. The Board would like to review them at its August 18 meeting, and then send them for critical review to the current members. In particular, we might want to mention the names of charter members and will need their approvals.

The Summit committee wil be preparing similar materials for release about a week later. We hope to be accepting membership applications and online payments by late September.

We need messages for:
